We improve your team’s ability to manage situations of increasing difficulty and test the team’s reactions to directives, distractions, and deterrents.
What are some emergency management training resources for the sector?
Most utilities in the water sector start with the basics of emergency management using the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS). The standard trainings are below (12.5 virtual hours plus 4-5 days in person). We know these aren’t the easiest to get through, but don’t worry, we’ll refresh these principles for your team and actually make them stick.
ICS-100 (web-based) - An Introduction to the Incident Command System
ICS-200 (web-based) - Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
ICS-700 (web-based) - An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
ICS-800 (web-based) - National Response Framework, An Introduction
ICS-300 (in-person) - Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents
ICS-400 (in-person) - Advanced ICS Command and General Staff - Complex Incidents
Other FEMA water specific training courses include the following:
IS-553 (web-based): Coordination between Water Utilities and Emergency Management Agencies
IS-1024 (web-based): Water and Wastewater Treatment System Considerations
The US EPA has also developed standard table top exercise materials that can be found here.
These resources are commonly used, but are only a starting point. The Teamergent leverages the fundamental teachings of these resources, and takes preparedness to the next-level with engaging and human-centric challenges.
Does Teamergent training leverage the FEMA ICS structure?
Yes. The Teamergent Preparedness Program leverages the foundational structure of FEMA ICS and Homeland Security HSEEP fundamentals for exercise planning and execution. In fact, the program both summarizes and tests your team’s ability to implement the FEMA ICS structure and emergency principles.
How can I get help on my Emergency Response Plan (ERP)?
Teamergent can help you revisit your ERP to highlight areas of improvement, identify areas for streamlining your plan, and support in the identification of hazard mitigation solutions.
As a friendly reminder, the required emergency response plan from American Water and Infrastructure Act (AWIA) were initially due in 2021/2022. The 5-year cycle is fast approaching with deadlines based on population size. FAQs are available here.
Don’t just stop at the plan. You’ll need to prepare your team to truly be ready for the next emergency scenario that comes your way.
